The Last Post

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Well…….this is it. This is your last blog post as the parent of a PreKPal! We have loved watching your children learn and grow this year! Thank you for sharing them with us! They are all so smart and we cannot wait to see what they will do in Kindergarten!

How did we get here so fast? I am sure there will be a few things that I’ll need to send out this week, and as I stated before, I will leave this blog and our dojo group “live” but inactive until this time next year so you can get all the pictures you want – but I will not post to this group any more after this week. I will post an “archive warning” about a month before archiving so you can get any remaining items you wish. You won’t get regular updates or weekly Sunday night blog posts, but you can access them if you need them.

The Kindergarten team at RQES is fantastic. You cannot go wrong with any of the teachers – so please relax and enjoy your summer with your family. I know that wherever your child gets placed for Kindergarten they will thrive and excel! Mrs. Alker and I will be sure to check in on them those first few weeks!

This week, Wednesday and Thursday, dismissal will be at 11:10 for PreK. Extended Day will pick up students at that time if you are registered.

We have to serve lunch, so if your child does not bring a lunch from home, we will get them a sack lunch from the cafeteria.

We will send napmats, changes of clothes and all remaining items home on Tuesday. Please let us know if your child’s last day will be sooner than Thursday so we can make sure to send everything home with them on their last day.

Tuesday will be our last Trike Day.

Weekly PreK Reminders:

  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water (flavored water must be clear!), labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS. NO JUICE!!!
  • Your child’s backpack and lunch box (if they will not eat from the cafeteria). We are not allowed to heat lunches for children so send their things ready to eat, please!
  • PreK Binder (please clean out daily)
  • Wear tennis shoes and socks!
  • Please send a bag with 4  snacks (that do not need to be refrigerated!) labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.

NEW Dates to Remember:

May:

21: ½ Day Early dismissal

22: ½ Day Early dismissal

23: Teacher Workday (no students!)

It has been our absolute pleasure to teach your little ones this year! You trusted us to start their educational journey, and we are trusting you to never let their love of learning end……after all……. Childhood Should be a Journey………Not a Race.

Our Last Full BUSY Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day and enjoyed the gift that your PreKPal made for you!

This week we are going to be working on our PreK Celebration scheduled for Thursday. Our theme for the rest of the school year is camping. Here’s the run down of this week (which will be different from our other weeks! No Heggerty Nursery Rhymes, no math or literacy skills. It’s all about the Celebration and Kindergarten Breakfast and Field Day/Spring Fling! Buckle up! Here we go!

Tuesday we will take a little kindergarten tour.

Wednesday we will practice for the celebration. T

Thursday is kindergarten breakfast. DO NTO SEND BACKPACKS ON THURSDAY. Then PreK Celebration immediately follows.

For Kindergarten breakfast, you may send your PreKPal at the regular time and we will meet you in the front foyer for Kindergarten breakfast. Or your child may come with you to the breakfast. After Kindergarten breakfast is over, please bring your PreKPal to me and Mrs. Alker in the cafeteria. You may then go get a seat in the multipurpose room.

There is no dress code for the Breakfast and the Celebration. Just have them wear whatever cute outfits you want them to wear!

After the PreK Celebration is over, you may check your child out by signing them out on the clipboard at each teacher’s table. If your child is going to remain at school after the Celebration, we ask that you please take their portfolio home with you. They are too big to send with the PreKPals and if your child goes to extended day the portfolio will get destroyed. So PLEASE take the portfolio with you when you go!

Friday is Field Day and Spring Fling. All students must wear shorts, tennis shoes and socks. We will be hot and doing lots of running. Please apply sunscreen at home BEFORE coming to school.

Friday we will not send mats home. They will come home for the last time on Tuesday of next week.

We will sing 2 songs at our PreK Celebration. I am including the links at the bottom of this post.

Weekly PreK Reminders:

  • Send the nap mat back tomorrow please if you did not send it today.
  • Daily: Make sure your child’s little reader is INSIDE their binder! Make sure to record the title of the book so we can try to assure they get a new book each M-Th.
  • Please send a bag with 5 snacks (that do not need to be refrigerated!) labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.

Mother’s Day

Mrs. Alker and I want to thank you all so much for making us feel so appreciated last week! We have loved every thoughtful note, every gift card, every snack and candy treat! You are all so thoughtful!! We appreciate each of you so much! Our favorite thing was reading the cards and letters! Your children are our gifts everyday!! Thank you so much! We feel so loved!

We hope you loved your photo frame painted just for you by your PreKPal and that you have felt loved and celebrated today!

This week is a busy week so there will be a blog post tomorrow detailing all of the dates and times and special things that will be needed for this week. Monday is a regular day – so no worries. You have time to prepare!

Today, I’d like to leave you with one of my favorite poems about being a Mom.

I did not write it, but I have lived every word. For those of us to whom becoming a Mommy did not come as easily or as expected, Mother’s Day is an especially precious day. And for those still waiting to be a Mommy for the first time, or for the second time, Mother’s Day can be very painful. However motherhood comes to you – it is a GIFT! Thank you so much for sharing your children with us. We love all of them dearly. We hate that our time together is coming to an end so soon.

Enjoy.

Before I was a Mom
Before I was a Mom
I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.
Before I was a Mom
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on – Pooped on – Spit on – Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests…or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life
so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Happy Mother’s Day, friends. Alicia and Bri
