Send in your child’s Groundhog mask as soon as possible so we can decorate them to be ready for February 2! Mrs. McCants said that they can be dried in the dryer if you’d like to do that. We are excited about dressing like groundhogs and doing some fun activities! Thanks to Mrs. McCants for helping to make learning fun!

The following is a regularly scheduled post from the Office of School Readiness (OSR).

Family Strong in Alabama (Strengthening Families Implementation Program)

Our Monthly Focus is Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development Definition: YOU are the first teacher to your child and you play a huge role in their success in school for the rest of their time in school. This means you need to learn about what is normal development and what is the best for your child.

Why It is Important: Children go through many stages of development. Informed parents are more likely to have realistic expectations, provide appropriate guidance, and build positive relationships with their child. Being a great parent is part natural and part learned. Parent education makes your family strong.

What It Looks Like: When you are strong in knowledge, you will be confident in parenting. This means understanding development and also what is appropriate expectations. Your child will change quickly and the only way for you to keep up is to become an “expert” of your child

Activities to Do at Home:

  • Talk with your teachers about GOLD and ASQ-3. This will give you a good picture of where your child is in development
  • Ask your child’s teacher for resources that support the curriculum being used in the classroom
  • Ask your child’s teacher if you can check out books to read with your child
  • Find parenting trainings and attend, bring back the information to share with your child’s class.

Hey PreKPals and Families-

Happy Tuesday!! This is going to be a short week in PreK but we have it packed with lots of fun and exciting NEW things! We are going to be learning about Space!! We have changed the Dramatic Play area from an ice-skating rink to a Space Station! We have a Reading Rocket where you can read space books, and we have all new literacy and math centers with a space theme! We cannot wait to blast off with you tomorrow!

Please remember to pack 4 snacks, a water bottle with a VALVE, your ROCKET binder, a jacket, your backpack and your napmat.

Breakfast and Lunch are free for each child for the remainder of the year. I sent a picture of the menu last week on Dojo.

Charlie’s sweet mom, Allison, saw a facebook post where I was sad about about some sold out Groundhog masks and she offered to make them for the PreKPals!! We have such talented parents! She washed the fabric prior to making the masks, but we are going to send them home for you to wash so you know everything is safe. Please send your child’s washed and line dried mask back to school on January 28th in the bag labeled with your child’s name. We will decorate our masks with fabric noses and groundhog teeth and will wear them on Groundhog Day, February 2, as we do all of our fun Groundhog Day/shadow activities. Virtual friends will get their masks and decorating supplies in their activity bags so you can be ready at home, too!

On February 1 we will start Cupid for a Day. This will work the same way we did Santa for a Day in December. On your child’s day, he/she will bring their Valentines to school to deliver. We WILL allow candy treats (NO NUTS PLEASE due to allergies). You will only need to write “From: your child’s name” to make it easier for the PreKPals to deliver their Valentines. If you are a virtual student, you will be able to come in at your assigned time on Friday, when no other students are present (If you feel safe doing that) to deliver your goodies. Our Valentine Party will be on Thursday, February 11. Virtual students will have a “Party in a Bag” and that, along with your Valentine Bag will be ready for you to pick up on Thursday, February 11. Look for a Sign-up Genius for items we will need for the party. Due to Covid restrictions, the party will be for students only, but we will make lots of pictures for you and put those on Class Dojo.

This week for both groups, we will continue with our winter study and will learn about polar animals and animals that hibernate, migrate or adapt to cold winter conditions. If your child becomes symptomatic or is determined to have a positive COVID diagnosis, you can alert school leader through a designated form which will be posted on all TCS websites. This form should be used by parents December 14, 2020 – January 4, 2021 instead of contacting your child’s principal, teacher or school nurse over the Winter Break.
