The End……….

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy Sunday! This is our LAST regular blog post of the school year! How did we get here so fast? I am sure there will be a few things that I’ll need to send out this week, and as I stated before, I will leave this blog and our dojo group “live” but inactive until this time next year so you can get all the pictures you want – but I will not post to this group any more after this week. I will post an “archive warning” about a month before archiving so you can get any remaining items you wish. You won’t get regular updates or weekly Sunday night blog posts, but you can access them if you need them.

We had so much fun with our Chilly Field Day and our Spring Fling on Friday! Thanks to all the parents who came and worked, and laughed and pulled wagons and took pictures and manned bouncy houses! We could not have done it without you! We did have one tragedy during the Spring Fling portion of the day. Our friend Emma Grace fell off the spinning monkey bars at the Phelps Center playground and broke her arm! She has a new pink cast but she was so very brave! We are wishing her well as she recovers from her fall.

Please return or pay for library books!

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SEND BACKPACKS EVERYDAY THIS WEEK!

Monday and Tuesday are regular days this week.

Wednesday and Thursday are early dismissal days!!  PreK will dismiss at 11:10. Your older children will be dismissed at 11:30. Extended day will be in session on these days.

If you decide to start your summer early- please let us know so we can get all your child’s things for them to carry home.

I haven’t mentioned this but almost everyone in the building is switching rooms for next year. The movers are coming Friday. We haven’t packed one thing….. So……if your children come to school this week – they will be helping to clean and pack! Do with that information what you will. 😊

We will send nap mats home on Tuesday for the last time this school year. If your child is coming to summer learning, they will need their backpack and nap mat for the month of June!

I will send the Lunch menu on Dojo when the cafeteria sends it out.

It has been our honor and privilege to teach your littles this year. We hope you enjoyed our Celebration and that the portfolio gives you lots of enjoyment! We love looking through them to see how much your children have grown! We are encouraging them to use the rest of their journal paper in the composition book over the summer. If you would rather, just give them a new notebook for a journal! (one year I had a momma in tears because her PreKPal took everything out of the sheet protectors when he got hit home!! I’ve told them NOT to take things out!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

This week is jam packed with fun and festivities!

Thursday is Kindergarten Breakfast. Here is a recap of what you need to do.

Thursday, May 18 will be a big day in PreK! It is Kindergarten Breakfast AND our end of the year PreK Celebration! It will be a busy day- so we wanted to send these details in writing so you will know what to do.

Send your PreKPal to school as you normal would on a regular school day. They can be dressed and ready for all the pictures you will make that day.

Please message your child’s teacher as soon as possible to let us know if you plan to attend Kindergarten Breakfast.

  • At 9:00 you will meet us in the front lobby of the school for the Kindergarten Breakfast.
  • Your child will register with you, sit with you and take the Kindergarten tour with you.
  • Once your tour group is finished, you will bring your PreKPal back to the PreK classroom.
  • At this time, you will leave RQES but your PreKPal will remain at school.

At 12:45, you and your guests will return to RQES and you will go to the multipurpose room and find a seat. Our PreK Celebration will begin at 1:00.

  • At the end of the PreK Celebration, you will go to table labeled with your teacher’s name and pick up your child’s portfolio.
  • You will sign the clipboard if you are checking your child out.
  • Your child may leave with you from the multipurpose room.
  • If your child is going to extended day after the PreK Celebration, then they will return to the PreK classrooms with the teachers.
  • We ask that you take their portfolio home with you and not leave it to take to extended day, even if your child is staying for extended day.

Please message your child’s teacher teacher as soon as possible let us know if you plan to check your child out after the PreK Celebration.

Mother’s Day

Mrs. Dunn and I want to thank you all so much for making us feel so appreciated last week! We have loved every thoughtful note, every gift card, every snack and candy treat, the beautiful flowers, the personalized pens are all so thoughtful!! We appreciate each of you so much! Our favorite thing was reading the cards and letters! Your children are our gifts everyday!! Thank you so much! We feel so loved!

This week is a busy week so there will be a blog post tomorrow detailing all of the dates and times and special things that will be needed for this week. Monday is a regular day – so no worries. You have time to prepare! I may post it tonight when I get home from celebrating my own mama.

Today, I’d like to leave you with one of my favorite poems about being a Mom. I did not write it, but I have lived every word. For those of us to whom becoming a Mommy did not come as easily or as expected, Mother’s Day is an especially precious day. And for those still waiting to be a Mommy for the first time, or for the second time, Mother’s Day can be very painful.  Thank you so much for sharing your children with us. We love all of them dearly. We hate that our time together is coming to an end so soon.

Enjoy.

Before I was a Mom
Before I was a Mom
I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.
Before I was a Mom
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on – Pooped on – Spit on – Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests…or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life
so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Happy Mother’s Day, friends. Alicia and Whitney

Ocean Week #2

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy Sunday! Tick Tock……Tick Tock……..

We had so much fun with our PreK Derby Days last Friday! Our pool noodle ponies are always so well behaved and love getting out to race and run! All of our little ladies and gentlemen looked amazing in their Derby Day finery! Check out our photos on Dojo if you haven’t already!

Please see the information that came home last week about the Kindergarten Breakfast and the PreK Celebration. There is a screenshot and a post with the full information on Dojo if you need a reminder. I know it is a lot for one day, but we do that on purpose so that our working parents only have to take off one day of work. “Maycember” is so busy with ball, soccer and dance and music recitals! We try to be mindful of your already over booked schedules.

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we are learning Peas Porridge Hot We are sending home a copy for you to enjoy with your child. We are still reviewing all letters and letter sounds and working on adding and subtracting.

In science, we are continuing to learn about the Ocean Habitats. We have lots of fun things planned this week and we are saving a ton of fun things to do in Summer Learning. We could teach about oceans all year long! Last week in science we dissolved a seashell in vinegar. It happened so quick! In less than 24 hours it was completely gone. If you want to do this at home you just need a shell, a glass jar and some vinegar. This week in science, we will be making oceans in a bottle! So much fun!

There will be a special gift coming home this week on Thursday for the special ladies in your family. Check your backpacks! We hope you enjoy! Mrs. Dunn and I appreciate all of you!

We will go to the library this week for the last time on Tuesday morning, so find and return your library book. All Library books are due back or must be paid for by May 15. The library will close for checkouts in two weeks. Mrs. Hamilton has to do inventory and count every book in the library, so find the ones you still have at home so they can be included in the inventory.

I will send the Lunch menu on Dojo when the cafeteria sends it out.
