Gingerbread Week!!

Hey PreKPals and Families-

Welcome back!! We hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving!! Mrs. Dunn and I both had a great time with our families but are anxious to get back to school to see all of our PreKPals! It is Gingerbread week and we are going to have so much fun!!

PLEASE NOTE that masks are optional beginning tomorrow. (Older students who ride buses will still need to wear them on the bus. This is a federal thing.)

Send a winter set of clothing, including socks and under wear to keep at school.

In literacy this week, we will work on identifying and making the letter sounds for Gg and Ll. In our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program for PreK, we are learning the Nursery Rhyme – The Wise Old Owl. We will send a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

In math, we will still be working on making sets of 5 and knowing the parts of 5 and continuing to count with one-to-one correspondence.

I will post the lunch menu for this week on Dojo as soon as it is available.

Dates:

November 30: Gingerbread man disguise due. We cannot wait to see all of the wonderful ways you are disusing your GB Men/Ladies!

PLEASE send jackets that button or zip to school. NOT over the head sweatshirts (Unless your child can take it off and put it on INDEPENDENTLY! It takes a LOT of time for 2 teachers to get 18 wiggly students in and out and in and out of sweatshirts.) The PreK Jacket Flip only works with jackets that are open front.

A great resource for letters and sounds is the Letter Factory by Leap Pad. You can find them all on YouTube or in DVD’s. All of the Leap Pad videos are great and the songs stick in your head! Here’s a link for you to use at home.

This week in PreK-

Hey PreKPals and Families-

We had a great time at the Book Fair last week! Everyone made great choices with their money and they were so excited about their books! These are the same books from the same company that we send book orders from (Scholastic) and we are always pleased with the selection and quality! I hope you enjoyed reading with your PreKPal!

In literacy this week, we will work on identifying and making the letter sounds for Cc and Ff . In our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program for PreK, we are learning the Nursery Rhyme – The Three Little Kittens. We will send a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

We also moved some PreKPals to independent sign in last week. This means they are writing their name instead of tracing it. We have to “sign in” everyday as part of our PreK requirements. The laminated name sheet we sent home a few weeks ago will help. You can practice at home! We are so impressed with their progress! If your PreKPal is still tracing all or some of their name at school – you shouldn’t worry! Just work with them at home on their practice sheet and they will be independent in no time!

We are working on cutting skills. I know parents are scared to let their little ones use scissors – but it is time! 😊 I’ll be sending some cutting practice and tips home later on so you can see how well they are doing on this skill! Check out this helpful video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT3PCQTBdeM

In math, we will still be working on shapes and we will add solid shapes! Can your PreKPal identify and name the 4 basic shapes: circle, square, triangle and rectangle? We are adding sphere, cone, triangular prism and cylinder.

You will be getting 2 copies of your child’s Fall Progress report tomorrow in the binder. Please sign and return ONE copy. Keep the other copy for your records. If you would like to have a conference, please send a message on Dojo. Conferences are optional and will be held via google meet due to covid protocols. Most conference times will be 1:15-1:35. If this time does not work we can make other arrangements. Just let me know.

It’s time to learn the PreK Jacket Flip! We had so much fun practicing this last week. The PreKPals are so thrilled when they are able to do it!

You can practice at home! It will make your life easier (and ours too!) Here’s the link to show you how the PreK Jacket Flip works.
