I Can See Fall Break….

Hello PreKPals Families!

F*I*V*E more days until Thanksgiving vacation! Can you believe how fast this semester has flown by? We have more Thanksgiving fun planned this week. On Friday, we will keep the Bear Binders at school so you don’t have to worry with them during the break.

If you decide to do some cleaning out before the holidays we’d be happy to take the following off of your hands: Legos, view finder discs/view finders, hot wheels cars, Mr. Potato Heads and potato head parts. Also remember to save and send in the circle shaped tops from apple sauce and yogurt pouches. We will use them for sorting and counting. Thanks so much!

Gobble Gobble!

Hello PreKPals Families!

Thanks to all of you for making my birthday so special! I appreciate each and every one of you! I enjoyed a long weekend of laundry, lesson plans and napping. It was so strange to come to school today and it already be Tuesday!

We are going to be learning about Thanksgiving with our “Little Turkeys” for the next two weeks. In STEM class with Ms. Christian, we are making turkey traps with legos! We are working on patterning, rhyming words and recognizing letters and numbers fluently. That means recognizing and naming the number or the letter instantly.

Please sign and return one copy of the Fall progress report. Keep one copy for your records. I’m happy to schedule a conference to speak with you about your child!

Here’s the jacket flip video again. Remember to have your child stand at the hood or the collar before flipping. That way they won’t have it on upside down when they flip. We are going to be wearing jackets more often. Please help your child learn to button, zip and fasten his jacket/coat. We will always help, but we want the students to try and to learn to be independent in dressing themselves. In PreK, we use the jacket flip. Practice this at home and your child will be an expert in no time!

From the Office of School Readiness (OSR):

Family Strong in Alabama (Strengthening Families Implementation Program)

Our Monthly Focus is Parental Resilience (Even though this is titled Parental Resilience, we know that there are many caregivers in a child’s life- grandparents, aunts, uncles, trusted friends. This protective factor is for every caregiver in a child’s life)

Definition: Parenting is tough!

There are times it can be stressful and challenging. Sometimes it can even be downright overwhelming. This protective factor looks at how you bounce back from those hard times, even when the hard times outnumber the good times. Why It is Important: As a parent you are the most important person in your child’s life. It’s true! To your preschooler, you are pretty awesome (enjoy it now, it will change when teen years set in). They watch everything you do; this includes how you act. This is a huge responsibility; we teach children to be calm by being calm. You must take care of yourself before you can truly take care of anyone else. This is not only your emotional and mental health, but also your physical health. A strong parent builds a strong family. What It Looks Like: Being a parent is one of the most selfless things you can do. As a parent, your child needs you. They need a calm and happy “you”. Life’s challenges can take this strong “you” away. Stress, anger, frustration and exhaustion creep in and suddenly the “you” that your child truly needs is buried under a lot of scary stuff.

Activities to Do at Home:

  • Try to take time for yourself everyday- YES put yourself first! Its allowed and recommended
  • Surround yourself with positive people who build you up
  • Focus on your health, take a walk or try yoga.
  • Remember that fun hobby you had before children? Bring it back and find time to have fun, maybe share it with your child to share your hobby with them- if possible (not if it is skydiving!)

November!!

Hello PreKPals Families!

What a fun, exciting and tiring week we had last week! We have some fun things planned for our Patriotism unit this week as we learn all about Veterans Day. Remember that we will be out of school on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. We have a wonderful PTA program on November 7 at 6 pm and the book fair will also be open for shopping that evening. If you have a current or former military person in your family, please invite them to be your guest at the program so we can honor them and thank them for their service to our country. The 4th and 5th graders will be singing at the program.  This week, all of RQES will be writing cards and letters that will be delivered to the VA Hospital. It’s going to be a great start to November!

We are going to be wearing jackets more often. Please help your child learn to button, zip and fasten his jacket/coat. We will always help, but we want the students to try and to learn to be independent in dressing themselves. In PreK, we use the jacket flip. Practice this at home and your child will be an expert in no time!

Also, remember that unless your child is going to wear a sweatshirt all day, we ask that those be reserved for weekends. We cannot take sweatshirts off and put them on multiple times per day x 18 students.

We will send home shorts/short sleeved clothing from the “change of clothes” this week. Please send a change of clothes that is suitable for cold weather. Changes of clothes are needed for spills, falls in the mud and bathroom accidents.

October 31-November 7: RQES Book Fair (any parent who volunteers to work the book fair will get 2x the volunteer hours! See Mrs. Pilsch for more information on Volunteering!)

November

7: PTA/Veterans Day Program at RQES 6 pm (book fair shopping will be available!)

11: No School – Veterans Day

21: Turkey Bowl (4/5th grade flag football game under the lights at Northridge High School)
