Happy April!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy April! I hope that all of you had a lovely weekend and that all who celebrate Easter had a nice time with friends and family. This will be a short school week but it will be busy and fun! Don’t forget there is no school on Thursday or Friday for students.

Thanks to all who sent in eggs for our Egg Hunt last week! We had such a good time! It always amazes me how long it takes to hide eggs and how quickly the children find them! They did such a great job in getting the correct number of eggs and then sitting with their friends to open them. It was a lovely morning!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Jack Be Nimble.  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the sounds for K and D this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will continue to review plane shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, rhombus, octagon) and we will make sure we know how to identify them no matter how they are positioned.

We are exploring with Zoo Animals this week but we will continue to have our Construction and Building in dramatic play! They weren’t quite done with all of the Construction fun so we are extending that for the rest of this week.

Don’t forget to let me know when you have done the Born Ready pledge. It literally takes seconds to do and you get 2 Parent Involvement hours for doing it. Since I cannot see who has and has not (but the state department can) please let me know so I can give you your 2 Parent Involvement hours. TWO parent involvement hours will be awarded for each family that goes to Born Ready link https://bornready.org/ and messages me that you have taken the pledge. It is quick and easy! Due by April 12 to get the hours!

We had the most fun working with partners last week to design and build our own houses for the 3 Little Pigs! That Big Bad Wolf couldn’t blow very many houses down so we think we are pretty good engineers! Our Magic Beans are sprouting already! We will send them home soon for you to plant! This week we will be going on an animal safari and exploring camouflage and different traits of animals! It’s always a wonderful time in PreK.

We will be sending some links home soon for your child to practice the songs for our PreK Celebration! We do not do a graduation – but we do have an end of the year celebration and we cannot wait for you to see our portfolios. The celebration will be held the same day as kindergarten breakfast. The Breakfast will be in the morning and the Celebration will be in the afternoon on May 16! Mark your calendars!

Weekly Reminders:

  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water (flavored water must be clear!), labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS. NO JUICE!!!
  • A JACKET DAILY
  • Your child’s backpack and lunch box (if they will not eat from the cafeteria).
  • A bag with 3 snacks (that do not need to be refrigerated!) labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.

Marching On……

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy last week of March! Boy, this month happened fast! Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for my mother. She made it through the surgery with no problems and is back at her home in North Alabama. I appreciate each of you so much!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Hickory Dickory Dock.  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the long and short sounds for O and I this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will continue to review plane shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, rhombus, octagon).

We are exploring with Construction and Building this week! We have changed out all of our items on the shelves for themed activities related to Construction and Building. We have changed dramatic play into a Construction site! We have added all kinds of blocks and building materials to our shelves. Our sensory bin is construction site with metal letters and numbers, magnetic wands, bulldozers and other earth movers, tunnels, mulch and stones. It is one of my favorite units since my Daddy was a clearing contractor and I grew up with big rigs, Caterpillar bulldozers and tractors in my driveway! So much fun!

Last week for science we planted magic beans and we are so excited to watch them grow! We will send them home when they sprout! This week for science we will be working with partners to construct a safe home for our little pigs! We will have a special guest to test our buildings! The BIG BAD WOLF is coming to try and blow our houses down! I can’t wait for you to see the video. This is always a PreK favorite!

Wednesday morning, we will have our Egg hunt. Your child can still turn in their 12 plastic toy or sticker filled eggs tomorrow. We had several friends out on Friday. The 5th graders will hide our eggs and we will search for them with our other PreK friends from different classes. It will be so much fun! Please send your child’s basket, bucket or bag by Wednesday morning. We will return them on Wednesday afternoon.

If you plan to leave early this week for the Easter weekend, please let us know so we can send your child’s nap mat home when they leave.

We will be sending some links home soon for your child to practice the songs for our PreK Celebration! We do not do a graduation – but we do have an end of the year celebration and we cannot wait for you to see our portfolios. The celebration will be held the same day as kindergarten breakfast. Welcome Back!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Welcome back to school! We are so glad you are all rested and ready to return to school! The Jenne and The Dunn families spent some time at the beach and we had a good time even though it was colder than we would have liked! We hope you all had a good break as well.

This week I will need to be out for 1-2 days while my mother has surgery. I am an only child and my father passed away a few years ago so it is up to me to be the nurse. Mrs. Dunn and some very awesome subs will be with the PreKPals and I hope to be out as little as possible. In light of this, please make sure you message Mrs. Dunn this week about changes in dismissal. If you do happen to message me and I don’t reply, that means that I did not receive the message. We want everyone to be safe and secure so please message Mrs. Dunn to make sure she knows what is going on.

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Rain Rain Go Away.  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the long and short sounds for A this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will review plane shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, rhombus, octagon).

We are exploring with Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales this week! We have changed out all of our items on the shelves for themed activities related to Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. We have changed dramatic play into a Royal Castle! We have added castle blocks, castles and royal figures to our building areas. Our sensory bin is a magical forest with the seven dwarves and our Tonie box got a new Tonie- Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. We can’t wait for all of our little knights, princes and princesses to arrive! We even got royal bibs for the babies in dramatic play! In science this week we are going to do something magical!! It is always a favorite and we cannot wait for the PreKPals to tell you all about it!!

A PreK requirement is parent involvement hours. TWO parent involvement hours will be awarded for each family that goes to Born Ready link https://bornready.org/ and messages me that you have taken the pledge. It is quick and easy! Due by April 12 to get the hours!

This week for science we will need small clear cups. We are out of them in our supply closet. If you would like to send some, we would appreciate it!

Chinet Crystal® Premium Disposable Plastic Cups, Clear, 9 oz, 50 Count

We will also need more bottled water in the next week or so. Our water in the classroom is still cloudy. I have submitted a work request for them to check on it again! Thank you so much for always being so supportive and helpful to our class!

Weekly Reminders:

  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water (flavored water must be clear!), labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS. NO JUICE!!!

Eric Carle Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy week before Spring Break! This year is going entirely too fast…….. TOMORROW is SPRING PICTURE DAY!!!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Jack and Jill.  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the letters and sounds for P and L this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will learn to share items equally.

We had so much fun with our Dr. Seuss week last week that we are going to explore with another amazing author this week! We will be learning about the stories and amazing artwork from Eric Carle! He’s a favorite in the PreK world! We have lots of fun new items on the shelves and we’ve turned Dramatic Play into an Art Studio! This week it will be sort of a “makerspace” where the PreKPals can explore with tape, wavy scissors, paint sticks, paper plates, paper bags, ribbon, crape paper streamers and all sorts of amazing things! We know it will be a big hit! We didn’t get to do our crazy salad spinner painting fun last week so we are going to do it this week! Sometimes there is just too much goodness to fit into one week.

Thank you to all who sent postage stamps last week! We mailed letters to ourselves on Friday – so be looking for those early this week.

We got a new thing in PreK last week!! Our new Tonie box! It is so fun! We have Eric Carle stories this week! If you don’t know about Tonie Boxes (we didn’t until our awesome librarian, Mrs. Hamilton told us about them and let us explore with hers!) You can check them out here!

https://us.tonies.com

You might see your PreKPal on the news! The Mayor’s PR team came and video’d last week and interviewed me about the importance of PreK for a snippet for the Mayor’s Cup that is coming up in April. We’d love to see you there! I’m walking (because I only run if something scary is chasing me!) If you’d like to register, you can do so at this link:
