Out with the old……

Hello Bear Class Parents!

I hope each and every one of you had a fantabulous Christmas Day! We had a white Christmas in Red Bay! It was Grayson’s first white Christmas and Annelise’s very first Christmas ever! So much fun!

I am undecorating my house today and am about to go through the toy box….and clean out….and that reminded me! If you are getting rid of no longer loved or no longer used toys, bag them up for the treasure box! First Grade will be happy to take them! Also, if you are cleaning out the van, the car or the suv and have a bazillion happy meal type toys underfoot, throw those in the bag as well. If it is a toy with lots-0 parts, no worries….just toss all the parts in a ziplock bag.

Thanks so much! I am missing your little bits….but am looking forward to missing them for a few more days…..    🙂

Enjoy this time! January is coming fast! When we come back to school on January 6th(?) {I’m not sure when the kiddos come back, I have to be back a few days earlier} we will need 18 baggies of washed, seedless grapes with 12 grapes in each bag. We will be having our New Year’s Party on Friday, January 7th! I think someone told me they would do grapes, but now I can’t remember….so if it was you….let me know! 🙂

Happy end of 2010! Alicia

Big ‘O List ‘O Important Dates…..

14- Bama Theater to see Pooh. Send $6.00 if you’ve not done so already. Each child will need a sack  lunch because we will eat in the room before we go. We may or may not have early PE that day…..PTA will also be at 6:00ish that night. Hope to see you there!

15- We will be going to the library at 8:30. Bring your books! Last class before Christmas vacation!

16-Traditions Around the World. The children will rotate to different classrooms and learn about holiday celebrations in other lands and other cultures. No special supplies needed! Just children with smiling faces and great manners! 🙂

17- Polar Express Day! Wear your pajamas, slippers and a bathrobe if you have one. Bring shoes for PE. At 10:00 we will “board” the Polar Express and hear the wonderful story. Afterward, we will have a special snack of cookies and hot chocolate. We’ll do some graphing and tons of reading on this day!

20- Class Party! The children will FINALLY get to open their stockings and their gifts from me first thing in the morning. Lunch will be provided in the room (no lunchboxes needed). We will party from 10-11:55. Crafts, Stuff the Santa Game and much much more! (see today’s note in the Bear Binder for more information.)

21- Sing Along (8:30ish) Each child will need a Santa Hat (can be found at $$ Tree, Target, CVS, etc…) First Grade will be singing “Must Be Santa” (words came home yesterday). Faculty will be singing “Workin’ in a Elementary School”. Fun stuff!

end of the day on the 21st……I will be happy and tired. I will need to see if I can find Santa, cause who has time to do all of that when I am teaching little munchkins all day? Oh, and I will probably be giggling up my sleeve, ’cause, you know…..I will have sent 18 little precious Bears home for the winter….all SUGARED up. Enjoy! Smooch.

I will see you all back in room #221 on January 6th! Will some sweet soul volunteer to send 18 baggies of seedless grapes (with 12 grapes in each bag) washed and ready to eat, for our New Year’s Party?  Just let me know!

Overheard….

As a teacher, one hears interesting things while working with children. Sometimes they say funny things to me….sometimes I am working with another child and I just overhear stuff……Here’s a sample from this week….

“If I get a girl elf, I am going to name her Lilly. If  I get a boy elf,  I think I will name him……Roger!”

“Did you know these new writing markers are “smellable”?  Really, they are! Just put it right here beside me and I will tell you which ones are “smellable”. My nose just knows about “smellable” stuff.”

Child 1: “Whoa!  Black writing!” Child 2: “Let me see! You are so lucky!” (In reference to bold text in a book. They know that it is important, even if they can’t read it yet!)

“Let’s pretend we’ve done this. (at a center) Oh! She heard us…yep..she’s looking at us….I guess we’d better just do it then…..”

And from a few weeks back……

Child 1: “You know what “extinct’ means…..it mean it is dead and never coming back.” Child 2: “Well, I guess my Grandma is extinct then.”

“If we are calling this -ing guy the “King of -ing” then I want to call this “s” the “Princess of S”.

Don’t you want my job?  🙂  Alicia

Weekend Homework….

I need your help for a center activity we have planned for next week. Everything is in place……I just need pictures! That’s where you come in……Don’t leave me hanging, or I’ll have to pull out “plan B” bright and early Monday morning…and I hate to use plan B…..cause plan A is always sooooo Awesome! 🙂 Weekend Homework folks! You can do it!

Please send a baby picture (or a picture of your child as a much younger person) of your child to school on Monday. We will use them in a center next week. We will take good care of them and return them on Friday. Please follow these guidelines as closely as possible:

1.      The picture should only be of your child. No other people should be in the picture.

2.    Please label the back of the picture with your child’s name.

3.    Put the picture in a ziplock baggie for safe keeping.

4.    Pictures should be smaller than a 5×7.

Thanks!
