Happy April 1st!

Can you believe it is April already?? Those of you who have had me in the past know that April is the time when I end my bog posts with Tick…..Tock…..meaning, our time together is very short. When Monday is over, we will have 39 official school days left. (in the school day count we only count days that we are in school, so weekends do not count). Still. That’s not a lot of days…..

We are kicking off a new unit of study this week in science (but I am not going to post it here because some of you Sunday night readers might let it slip) and I am not revealing the topic until Monday afternoon. Our research shelf has been resotcked with books about our theme…and it is covered in black paper with a huge question mark on the front! Anticipation! It’s a great hook! 🙂

By the time your kiddos come home on Monday they will know and they will be excited! I’m pretty excited myself because I have a ton a fun, cute things planned for this unit!

Monday is library day, so round up your library books! I think that Friday is Field Day (left my calendar at school so check the Weekly Sheet tomorrow for details) PLEASE read the Weekly Sheet! It is your link to what’s happening in the class for the week.

Send in Box Tops! We are in the lead! Whoo Hooo!

Book orders are in! They actually came in on Friday before Spring Break but I was at the Science workshop. I will set up a new online order for this month later on this week.

I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break! I cannot wait to hear what everyone did…even if it was a “stay-cation” where you stayed at home (those are often my favorite!) I am well rested and missing my little munchkins! Can’t wait to see them in the morning!

Happy Monday! Alicia

Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail…..

Hopping down the bunny trail! We are so excited for our egg hunt on Thursday afternoon. Each child needs 12 candy/toy filled eggs (no NUTS!) and a basket with his/her name. We will hunt eggs in the courtyard from 2-2:30. Parents are welcome to hide eggs while we are in the computer lab. We will hunt eggs and have Popsicles for an Xtra special  snack! Super Fun!

Spring Picture Day is also on Thursday! We will probably make pictures in the early morning. You can send a change of clothes if you’d like. This picture is usually made in front of a green screen and you can choose the background that you like best.

This week we are having fun with our X-ray glasses eXamining X-rays at our light table. They are so cute! You should see them! Can you tell that X is our letter for this week?

I did not get book orders submitted last night. I will try to get them in tonight. Thanks to all who ordered. We should have the books by the time we get back from Spring Break on April 1st.

Please sign and return the report card jacket. You may keep the report card for your records.

Please send in your ZOO permission slip and money. We have to have this paid the week we come back from Spring Break. I only have about half the class so far. If your child will not be attending (i know someone is going out of town….I just cannot remember who) send a note so I can mark you off the list and then I will not keep worrying about it. Many thanks to all of you for keeping me on my toes with my secretarial duties! 🙂

Happy last week of school before Spring Break! We can do this…….

Feeling like a new person….

It’s amazing what a whole night of uninterrupted sleep will do for you after 4 straight days of  3 hours per night…..hopefully Annelise is on the mend and things can get back to normal around here. Sorry about the blog post yesterday…..I went to bed at 7 pm.

This week we are working hard as always! We have added a new center called “First Grade Practice”. The skills each week may be different but at this center the kiddos are trying their best to do first grade work. They are so excited about trying things that are more difficult, and proving to themselves, and me, that they CAN do it! So cute! 🙂 They minute we begin talking about going to first grade, I have some sweeties that get a stricken look! They do not want to leave! I have assured them that First Grade is wonderful and that they will love their new teacher just as much as they love me. I have also promised them that the first grade teachers will not ask them to do something that they do not know how to do. We have a saying in our class….”if you LISTEN, then everything is easy……but if you DO NOT listen, everything is hard”. They are doing a great job of listening…..most of the time!

Book orders! Due on Friday, March 15.Ordering is fast, fun and secure! There are more choices on the web than were provided in the catalog. Orders will come in within 2 weeks.

Wear green on Friday for St. Patrick’s Day!

We will have a special Mystery Reader on Friday! I forgot to put that on the Weekly Sheet. Cannot wait for that fun stuff! We will have an egg hunt on THURSDAY, MARCH, 21.  More details to come when we work out times and locations for the hunt! Children will need to bring 12 toy or individually wrapped candy (NOT CHOCOLATE) filled eggs and a basket. You may begin sending eggs as early as Friday of this week. Please let me know if your child needs a basket or eggs for his/her contribution.

Special Thanks for all of those who took the children to lunch today and to those who helped to provide lunch for the teachers. What a treat to be able to eat with adults! We are very blessed at RQES!

Have a great week! Looking forward to SPRING in one short week! Alicia

Check back on Monday night……

Too much sickness at my house this weekend and not enough me to go around. Check back Monday night for a blog update. I hope to have it up by then.

I will be at school on Monday, ’cause this teacher-momma needs the rest. 🙂 You know it’s been bad at home when teaching (18) 5-6 year olds is considered “rest”. I’m a much better teacher than I am a nurse…..

Stay well….Alicia

In Like a Lion……Out Like a Lamb…..

We had a wonderful Seuss week last week and did so many fun activities! Thanks for letting your child participate in all of the wacky, fun things we did. It really sparks their interest in reading when we do these fun things. I saw lots of Seuss books coming in the classroom during library check out time. In fact, our Seuss Reading Center was so popular that it will be a choice again this week. ‘Cause you can never have enough Seuss! This week, on Tuesday, we will be reading with our 4th grade buddies again. And this time…..we will also read to them! We have 2 Seuss Speedie Readies that we will take with us to Buddy Reading time! Those big kids are going to be so impressed with what we know how to do!

Thanks to everyone who sent in goodies for our sweet intern, Ms. Hake. She will begin her upper grade placement on Monday at Holt Elementary. We will miss her bunches. She loved her rolling cart full of goodies! We will help her get started on the right foot for her own classroom. Our other intern, Ms. Ivey, will not be joining us at this time. I will let you know if anything changes.

Please send in your box tops! We are currently in first place! Whooo Hooo!

Preorder tickets for McDonald’s pancake night end on 3/9. The tickets are $5 each for unlimited pancakes and sausage. If you are interested in this fun opportunity, please send your money in a sealed envelope marked “pancake night”, with your child’s name, my name and kindergarten on the outside. Tickets will be sent home prior to the March 12th event.

We have had several cases of the flu and fever virus in our class. Please keep your children at home if they have a fever. They may return to school when they have been fever free for 24 hours. We are sanitizing the tables daily with clorox/lysol wipes and I am spraying  lysol on all surfaces when the children leave for the day. We are trying our very best to keep everyone healthy.

I’ve been promising, but this time it will really happen….BOOK ORDERS will come home this week. A few of our friends were so sad that they did not get to go to the book fair with their parents, so I will send a form home this week. You can order from home, using your credit card or send a check made payabe to SCHOLASTIC (total all orders from all forms and send one check). Easy, safe and fun!

We are going to be finishing up with weather in the next week or so and our craft this week is a lion and lamb. Ask your munchkin to explain what the saying means.

15 school days til Spring Break……not that I’m counting or anything……   🙂

Happy Monday! Alicia
