Construction Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

We surely did have a great time last week with Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales! We loved adopting our unicorns and magical creatures, too!

Nine more Monday’s friends. This is about to go so fast! This week in PreK we are focusing on Construction and Building. We had a great time building houses for the 3 Little Pigs last week for STEAM, this week, we will work together to build bridges to see how many stones they can hold! So much fun!!

We are turning our dramatic play area into a construction site as well.

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we are reviewing “Hickory Dickory Dock” and are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We are continuing to review all letter names and sounds and in math we are identifying plane shapes.

We will go to the library on Tuesday morning, so find and return your library book so you can choose another one. Tuesday is also our day for the book fair! If you would like to send money for your child to purchase books, please send the money in a labeled envelope, or you can put money on their e-Wallet. The instructions came home last week on the book flier. There is also a time that you can shop with your children. I believe that time is Tuesday afternoon. I will send a Dojo message with the parent shopping hours when I am sure of the times.

I will send the Lunch menu on Dojo when the cafeteria sends it out.

Weekly Reminders: PLEASE READ! I KNOW WE PUT THIS IN THE BLOG WEEKLY, BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME FRIENDS WHO DON’T HAVE WHAT THEY NEED.

  • Send Lunch money in the binder (in a labeled envelope: Child’s name/lunch money) or a lunch box (no items that need to be heated), labeled with your child’s name. Please put bento lunch kits inside a lunchbox for easier transport to the cafeteria.
  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water, labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS.
  • Your child’s nap mat.
  • Your child’s backpack.
  • PREK BINDER
  • A bag with 5 snacks labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.

Welcome Back!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Welcome back!! We cannot wait to see everyone tomorrow! We hope you and your family had a great Spring Break. Whether you went on a trip, or just stayed home, we hope you got to read, relax, play and rest and that you are ready to come back to the LAST.NINE.WEEKS. of PreK! How in the world did we get here so fast? This week in PreK we are focusing on Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales!

We are turning our dramatic play area into a castle with a Royal Letters Hunt and some magical unicorns to play with. We have dress up dresses and knights clothes for extra fun! In blocks, we have added unicorns, castles and castle blocks. The light table has lots of magical items to build and play with and the sensory tub has Snow White and the Seven Dwarves! Of course the book nook is full of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tale books and we’ve added magnetic story retelling and flannel board sets to that area. The yellow, green and blue shelves have been restocked with all Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales activities and we will be reinforcing those in small groups this week.

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we are reviewing “Rain Rain Go Away” and are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We are reviewing all letter names and sounds and in math we are identifying plane shapes.

We will go to the library on Thursday morning, so find and return your library book so you can choose another one.

I will send the Lunch menu on Dojo when the cafeteria sends it out.

Have you registered for Summer Learning? It’s the month of June and it is FREE! Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Halcomb and I will be teaching PreKPals! Look back on Dojo for the QR code to scan to register. It says K-3 but your students are incoming KinderFriends so you can register!

You will get a snapcode later this school year to register for Kindergarten. Your child is already in the system so you get to skip the step of preregistration that you will soon be hearing about. Don’t do anything until you get a snapcode from me. You will be set! Also, please let me know if your child will attend another school in the fall. I will turn that list into the office and they will be ready to send your child’s records to the new school when they are requested.

Please note the new dates at the bottom; May 18 is a day you will want to take off from work. It is the annual Kindergarten Breakfast and tour, and that afternoon is our PreK Celebration! We do not graduate at RQES, but we do celebrate with songs and awards and certificates! You won’t want to miss this!

Weekly Reminders: PLEASE READ! I KNOW WE PUT THIS IN THE BLOG WEEKLY, BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME FRIENDS WHO DON’T HAVE WHAT THEY NEED.

  • A jacket! We play outside every day, twice per day. You can send a jacket that can be left at school in their cubbies. Please make sure the jacket buttons or zips. Only send sweatshirts if your child can get in and out of them completely by themselves. It’s hard to dress and undress 18 children repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Send Lunch money in the binder (in a labeled envelope: Child’s name/lunch money) or a lunch box (no items that need to be heated), labeled with your child’s name. Please put bento lunch kits inside a lunchbox for easier transport to the cafeteria.

Pete the Cat Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Last week we enjoyed so many fun rhyming activities with our Dr. Seuss books. We learned that Dr. Seuss made silly words to rhyme with real words. We played lots of rhyming songs and games during small group. Some of our friends are still having a hard time with rhyming. When you work on this at home, remind them that rhymes have the same ending sound. Try giving them a word, such as fox and asking them to tell you a word or words that rhyme or have the same ending sound: box, socks. Then switch it up and ask them to give you two words that rhyme. See if they can! If they cannot, again give them one word: hat and see if they can produce a rhyme. It takes time but the more you sing and read the better rhymers they will be!

All of our small group and choice time tubs will focus on our author study this week. We are learning about Pete the Cat and the author James Dean. Did you know that Mr. Dean is from Ft. Payne Alabama? There is even a Pete the Cat festival every year in August! To learn more about Pete the Cat click the link:   Pete the Cat

We are turning our dramatic play area into a stage with instruments and microphones and lights so we can rock our school shoes like Pete the Cat! We cannot wait! It will be so much fun!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we are reviewing “Jack and Jill” and are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We are reviewing the letter names and sounds for P and L and in math we are practicing dividing items equally. This is a great skill for you to practice at home with snacks, toys or other items. We are working on learning all letter sounds and counting in an organized fashion as these are upcoming kindergarten skills.

We will go to the library on Thursday morning, so find and return your library book so you can choose another one.

I will send the Lunch menu on Dojo when the cafeteria sends it out.

Thank you for always helping out with things that we need in our classroom! We appreciate you so much! This week, we are in need of small bathroom cups (the kind you rinse your mouth out with when you brush) We use these when friends forget their water bottles and need water for snack. We also need gallon size ziplock bags. The only kind that work for us are the full sized gallon bags that are not wide at the bottom (They should NOT be able to stand up) and the need to have the click closure at the top, not a zipper. Aldi brand without the red zipper at the top is perfect and any other brand that is the full sized bag (without the wide bottom). We appreciate all that you do to help us!

Speaking of water bottles- try to have 2 on hand so if one gets lost your child will have a backup! I know they are expensive. A rinsed-out Gatorade bottle with a sports top that can twist closed is a good backup! They don’t have to be pricey. They just need to not be an open pour top.
