Seuss Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

I am not sure how we got to the end of February- But here we are! This school year is flying by! We are excited to continue with everyone for the month of June for summer learning! I think our whole class is coming back and that makes these two teachers so very happy! We say all the time that this little class is the best and we don’t want them to go! We are thrilled to have a little bit of extra time with them! It is going to be so much fun!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will review the past four weeks of nursery rhymes.  We will review the letters and sounds for T and J this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will continue with identifying numbers 0-20 in random order and making sets of 10.

This week, we are learning all about rhyming words and the silly world of Dr. Seuss. We are going to learn all about a famous Africa American inventor, Philip Downing. He invented the mailbox! Our writing center has been a mail center for weeks now, and we deliver our mail with a little shopping cart. So much fun! This week, we are going to really mail letters to our own addresses as we learn about Mr. Downing and his amazing contribution to our world. Look for those letters coming your way at the end of this week! They are so excited to be sending and receiving real mail! If you would like to help with postage, please send a stamp or 2 in the zipper pocket of your child’s binder. We would appreciate your help!

Our dramatic play area will remain a dentist office with dental x-rays and a light table, baby dolls as patients and an appointment desk and waiting room! We didn’t have much time with this dramatic play theme last week so we decided to keep it for this week as well. Our shelves will have rhyming games, counting games and lots of Dr. Seuss related fun learning things. Our sensory table will have bow ties for the Cat in the Hat, red/black and white items and lots of scooping and measuring. We have Cat in the Hat puzzles and silly bendy building tubes for blocks. At the art table we are adding crazy salad spinner painting fun!

On Thursday, we will dress for our book character parade that will begin at 8:15. It will be recorded and provided for you to watch. Remember that your child’s costume must relate to a book. Please send the book with your child for the parade, or copy the front cover of the book and send that so they can carry it with them. If you need help locating a book please reach out so we can help you locate it before the morning of the parade. We are so excited! The PreK Teacher Team will be dressed as crayons! I am green and Mrs. Dunn is purple! Thursday night is also Literacy Night at RQ! The first 150 families will receive a free literacy kit! We cannot wait to see you there!

Weekly Reminders:

  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water (flavored water must be clear!), labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS. NO JUICE!!!
  • A JACKET DAILY
  • Your child’s backpack and lunch box (if they will not eat from the cafeteria).
  • A bag with 5 snacks (that do not need to be refrigerated!) labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.

Review letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will focus on identifying numbers 0-20 in random order and making sets with 6 and 7. Our shelves have valentine related math and literacy activities. Our light table has transparent candy and heart containers with gems and our sensory table has lots of valentine hearts, scoops, confetti and flower petals. It’s going to be a great week in PreK!

On Wednesday, our friends will get to bring their Valentine bags home and we will be having a special Valentine snack. Shout out to the awesome room moms for creating the Valentine goody boxes for snack on Wednesday. As a reminder, since this will just be a snack, parents aren’t attending for Valentine’s Day. However, if you’d like to come to lunch, (Wednesday or any day) just sign in at the office and meet us by the cafeteria at 11:30. You can eat with your child in the Space Hallway next to the cafeteria from 11:30-12:00.

Tomorrow (Monday) I will be at a doctor’s appointment out of town with my mother. Please message Mrs. Dunn on Dojo for any changes in dismissal. Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Wells will take great care of our class in my absence.

I sent the monthly menu last week on Dojo.

Space Week 2!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Little Jack Horner.  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the letters and sounds for F and N this week. Check at home to see if your child can recognize Ff and Nn. In Math, we will focus on identifying numbers 0-20 in random order. In science, we will continue to learn about planets, the moon and space! We will still have al of the fun dramatic play things and we have added some new items to the shelves this week. Cupid for a Day continues this week. I am leaving the information posted below in case you have questions.

We were so sad to see our friend Ellie leave on Friday. She will travel back to Korea on Monday. We hope we can see her again someday! We will get her email address and will send her letters! Technology can make the distance seem smaller!

We had an amazing day with our International Day on Friday! Thank you to everyone who helped make the day special. We loved that we got to host Korea in our classroom and we got to celebrate Ellie and Dorothy’s culture together. A special thanks to the parents who helped! We have added parent involvement points to your total for helping with International Day! We love that our school is so diverse and we get to learn about our world together!

It’s time for Cupid for a Day!

Cupid for a Day is our holiday plan that gives the children a great, fun-filled way to share with each other.  This is how it works:

  • Each child is assigned a day to be “Cupid” (see schedule below).
  • On the assigned day, each “Cupid” will bring 17 small items and valentines cards, one item for each classroom friend, and make loving deliveries to each Valentines bag!  (Examples:  pencils, matchbox cars, erasers, etc.). You can purchase several items at the Dollar Tree that have several small items in one package such as play dough, pencils, crayons, bubbles, Valentines candy, etc. It will be best if Cupid delivers the toys from a bag that hides them. By the end of the schedule, the Valentines boxes will be filled with goodies, and the children are so excited they cannot stand it.
  • The children will open the Valentines bags at our holiday party on February 14th.

Please follow a few guidelines:  1) Choose small  toys. We want everything to fit inside of the bags.   2) Choose something that all children will enjoy OR an item for boys and another for girls (9 girls & 8 boys).  3) Be sure and send an item for your own child. It causes confusion when they have to skip themselves because they don’t have enough treats. 4) DO NOT write student names on gifts.  4This will cause Cupid much trouble with finding/matching names with Valentines boxes. J   However, please write FROM whom the gifts come.

We are going to speed up the delivery so our friend Ellie can take her Valentines with her when she moves back to Korea on Friday! We are so sad to see our friend go but we wish her well and hope we will see her again some day!

Date Cupid for the Day
Monday, February 5th  Elliot, Marian & Chloe
Tuesday, February 6th  Layla, Jake & Sam G
Wednesday, February 7th Sam A, Owen & Brady
Thursday, February 8th Piper & Adelyn
