Do You Want To Build a Snowman?

Hey PreKPals Families!

Did you hear what I heard? A forecast of SNOW???? I think Mrs. Minifield and I are more excited than the kiddos!! We will just have to see what happens, but I for one am praying for some snow! And just in case, some “snow experiment homework” will come home. You will need to follow the directions and put the paper in the freezer for the experiment to work. Don’t worry! It’s easy and fun!

Last week was so busy! We began learning about SPACE! We are having fun in our pretend center that has gone from an ice rink to a Space Station. We are learning the names of the planets, too! We had a great 100th day! This week, we will be creating our 100 day monsters using the items you sent in! We can’t wait to see what creative monsters are made. We will also be making name rockets, working on identifying numbers and working on our writing. PreK is so much fun!

Find your water bottle (the one with a valve/not free pouring) your 5 snacks in a big ziplock bag, your backpack, your school jacket or sweater that you leave at school (jackets and sweaters that zip/button up the front are best for PreK. Taking sweatshirts on/off many times per day per child is difficult. If your child can take his/her sweatshirt on/off independently, then a sweatshirt is fine) and get it all ready for tomorrow! Have you noticed our PreKPals doing a new thing when putting on their jackets? You can practice at home by watching this video to make sure we are all doing it the same way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wRKDeKbAcI Make sure they stand facing the hood or the neck of the jacket for this to work correctly.

We are going to work on shoe tying, too! Here’s the way we will teach them how to tie shoes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJVR8hHBQyM If they don’t have that extra little hole in the top of their shoe for the laces to stick into, they can stick the lace between the shoe and the foot. Holding all of those little loops are hard for little hands. Have fun learning!

New Friends and New Polar Fun!

Hey PreKPals Families!

We have had a “Polar Blast” with our winter theme! By far, the favorite activity last week was ice skating and the snowball fight in the pretend center! This week we will add ice hockey!! But don’t worry- the ice hockey rink will be different from the ice skating rink, so everyone will still get to do both. PreK is so, so fun!

We enjoyed our music class with Ms. Hall on Friday and lots of PreKPals and their teachers had fun singing and dancing along. This upcoming Friday, Ms. Hall will be at a music conference so we won’t have music, but we will have Mrs. Lesley Dancer (a former RQES Assistant Principal) to teach guidance class. We will have her visit for the next 4 weeks on Friday. We love learning in PreK!

This week, we will add our last new friend to The Bear Class! We are so excited to welcome Barrett Wolbach to our room. Barrett and Cothran and Barrett Livingston from PreK#2 were all friends at their old school, so we know that Barrett Wolbach will fit right in. I am sending another new class list home tomorrow for you to keep. It will say “Current as of 1/14/19” on the top. Just toss the other one!

Last week, we got so excited talking about the 100th day and I sent home the instructions and did not send home the bag to gather the items in! (I told ya’ll, we need a secretary!) So tomorrow, we will send home the instructions AND the bag attached. This way I can make sure our new friends get everything they need as well. We only count school days, so our 100th day celebration is on January 23.

Sign and return one set of the papers that were sent home on Friday in the Bear Binder. One set is yours to keep. There will be another paper to sign and return on Monday. It pertains to our Blue-Ribbon Celebration that will happen on Friday, January 18.

Find your nap mat, your water bottle (the one with a valve/not free pouring) your 5 snacks in a big ziplock bag, your backpack, your school jacket or sweater that you leave at school (jackets and sweaters that zip/button up the front are best for PreK. Taking sweatshirts on/off many times per day per child is difficult. If your child can take his/her sweatshirt on/off independently, then a sweatshirt is fine) and get it all ready for tomorrow!

Happy 2019 and Roll Tide!

Happy 2019 PreKPals Families!

Can you believe it? Wow! 2019!! We hope you all had a fun, exciting and restful break. We just returned from the Early Childhood Conference in Mobile and it was NOT a boring meeting! We had so much fun and learned a lot and we cannot wait to share it all with the PreKPals!

We have so many fun things planned for this month! We will be learning about Arctic and Antarctic animals, we will learn about snow and ice and we will turn our pretend center into an “ice rink” where we will “ice skate”! How cool is that?

This week on Friday, we will also have our very first Music class! This Wednesday is also Library Story Time and we will check out new books. So much to do!

We have a new friend in our class. His name is Cothran Kisner. A few of you already know Cothran and I know he is going to fit right in. Our friends, Jung Woo and James have moved from our class. We hate to see them go! There is a possibility that we may get another new friend in the future, but right now we will have 17 PreKPals. A new list is coming home in the Bear Binder on Monday. (We kept the Bear Binders over the break so do not panic if you cannot find yours!)

Tomorrow is also the National Championship game! Wear your Bama gear if you Roll Tide! We cannot wait to see you!!
