Space: Week 2

Hey PreKPals and Families-

Happy Monday!! We are still learning about Space this week. We have lots of new, fun things for the PreKPals to do with math and literacy and science! Here’s the link to our fun song to learn the planet names in order.

Please remember to pack 4 snacks, a water bottle with a VALVE, your ROCKET binder, your backpack your napmat, and a jacket, WE PLAY OUTDOORS EVERY DAY that it is not raining. Your children MUST bring a jacket EVERYDAY. You are welcome to send one and tell them to leave it in their cubby if you’d like.

Breakfast and Lunch are free for each child for the remainder of the year. I sent a picture of the menu last week on Dojo.

PreK registration is open for the 2021-22 school year. Applications are online only and the child must be 4 by September 2 to register. Please tell your friends and family that may be interested in PreK to register! We are very hopeful that PreK will be all day, every day for the 2021-22 school year. Don’t wait until the last minute!

Send in your child’s Groundhog mask as soon as possible so we can decorate them to be ready for February 2! Mrs. McCants said that they can be dried in the dryer if you’d like to do that. We are excited about dressing like groundhogs and doing some fun activities! Thanks to Mrs. McCants for helping to make learning fun!

On February 2, we will start Cupid for a Day. This will work the same way we did Santa for a Day in December. On your child’s day, he/she will bring their Valentines to school to deliver. We WILL allow candy treats (NO NUTS PLEASE due to allergies). Please see the Cupid for a Day letter in the Rocket Binder on Monday.

The following is a regularly scheduled post from the Office of School Readiness (OSR).

Family Strong in Alabama (Strengthening Families Implementation Program)

Our Monthly Focus is Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development Definition: YOU are the first teacher to your child and you play a huge role in their success in school for the rest of their time in school. This means you need to learn about what is normal development and what is the best for your child.

Why It is Important: Children go through many stages of development. Informed parents are more likely to have realistic expectations, provide appropriate guidance, and build positive relationships with their child. Being a great parent is part natural and part learned. Parent education makes your family strong.

What It Looks Like: When you are strong in knowledge, you will be confident in parenting. This means understanding development and also what is appropriate expectations. Your child will change quickly and the only way for you to keep up is to become an “expert” of your child

Activities to Do at Home:

  • Talk with your teachers about GOLD and ASQ-3. This will give you a good picture of where your child is in development
  • Ask your child’s teacher for resources that support the curriculum being used in the classroom
  • Ask your child’s teacher if you can check out books to read with your child
  • Find parenting trainings and attend, bring back the information to share with your child’s class.
