Fun Week!

Hey PreKPals and Families-

This is our last week before our Winter Break! Everyone is sooo excited! We will be doing some sing along practice, crafts and other fun items this week. We will resume with small groups after the holiday.

You got an email on Friday from Mrs. Jockisch about the holiday plans. Here’s what is planned for Friday.

  • You will all be having parties from 8:15-9:30. (Parents are not joining during this time.)
  • We will have our sing-a-long – beginning at 9:30 in the MP room. *** We will rope off an area that is large enough to accommodate our children, faculty and staff. (This may include some of the lunchroom area.)
  • Kids will come to the stage to sing and we will livestream (THANKS HAMILTON!)
  • We will extend an invitation for ONE PARENT PER FAMILY (not per child) to join us if they would like. It’s going to be first come – first serve in the cafeteria area.  With ONE PARENT per FAMILY- we should be within our capacity requirements.
  • I do realize this isn’t ideal, but I’m hopeful parents will embrace our attempt to include them while maintaining safety regulations and capacity regulations.
  • If parents plan to check their child out following the sing a long, they will need to email you before Friday.  The children will all go back to the classroom with you following the sing a long and those checking out can get their things and you may walk them to the front foyer where parents can sign them out. (They will not be coming to your classrooms OR into the office area for check out)

Any items you signed up to bring can be sent with your PreKPal or dropped off at arrival on Thursday. Please label the items with the teacher’s name since there will be one teacher at arrival time, but items coming in for 3 classes.

Dates:

December 13: Santa for a Day still going on!

December 17: Early Dismissal Day for all students. PreK will dismiss at 11:10. All other grades will dismiss at 11:30.

PLEASE send jackets that button or zip to school. NOT over the head sweatshirts (Unless your child can take it off and put it on INDEPENDENTLY! It takes a LOT of time for 2 teachers to get 18 wiggly students in and out and in and out of sweatshirts.) The PreK Jacket Flip only works with jackets that are open front.

A great resource for letters and sounds is the Letter Factory by Leap Pad. You can find them all on YouTube or in DVD’s. All of the Leap Pad videos are great and the songs stick in your head! Here’s a link for you to use at home.

Sorry, I’m late!

Hey PreKPals and Families-

I’m sorry to be late with the blog this week. I had to leave unexpectedly last Wednesday to go take care of my mother who had gotten sick and had to be taken to the hospital. She is on the mend but it was a long tiring and emotional weekend. It was also the date of the equipment auction that my daddy had planned before he passed away. I can tell you that I was not at all emotionally prepared for how I would feel at the sight of Caterpillar bulldozers being hauled away by someone other than my daddy. They have been a part of my life – ALL of my life. Just wanted you to know why this post is late! I’m sorry! I try to always have them done on Sunday.

In literacy this week, we will work on identifying and making the letter sounds for Rr and Ww. In our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program for PreK, we are learning the Nursery Rhyme – Little Bo Peep. We sent a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

In math, we have learned a new skill! We are working on subitizing! When we subitize, that means we automatically KNOW how many of something are represented. When you see one whole hand, you know that it is 5. That is subitizing! We have fun gingerbread and gumdrop cards that we take a quick peek at – then we blow the answer in our hands and release the answer all at once. It’s our favorite new thing to do!

I will post the lunch menu for this week on Dojo as soon as it is available. (We haven’t had one in a while!) OH! We are learning a new thing in the cafeteria, too! Before, if a child got a lunch from school, it was a boxed lunch, like a to go plate. Now, we are learning how to carry our trays ourselves! Each child goes through the line and an adult serves them, and they carry it to the table themselves! We are learning big stuff!

Mrs. Yates, one of our room parents,  will be contacting you soon about sending party items to school. These can be sent with your PreKPal or dropped off at arrival. Please label the items with the teacher’s name since there will be one teacher at arrival time, but items coming in for 3 classes.

Dates:

December 6: Santa for a Day still going on!

December 17: Early Dismissal Day for all students. Class Party day (no parents will be in attendance.) We are still waiting to hear if we will have the Sing Along, and if parents will be allowed to attend.
