Happy October!!

Can you believe it is already October? I can’t! I have missed the PreKPals and Ms. Lee! This was a busy week and Ms. Lee and I haven’t seen one another in over a week! We will have a lot to catch up on tomorrow! While I was at my Professional Development, I had some time to plan for our new sensory items in the sand/water table. We are going to have some fun this week with popcorn kernels and scarecrows! We have some buttons, bandana pieces, mini scarecrows, crows, little hats, little pots, leaves, acorns and all kinds of fun things for sorting, scooping, and playing with. I can’t wait for the PreKPals to have fun with this bin!

The book order arrived from Scholastic and will come home tomorrow in backpacks. We will have a chance to order books again soon, and we will also have a Book Fair in the Library soon. There will be a sign up sheet for you to help check out children at the book fair. This is a great opportunity for you to earn some of your 12 required parent involvement hours.

T-shirts will be delivered this week so if you ordered one (or more) look for it in your child’s backpack!

The PTA will also be asking for help for RockFest. That’s another great way for you to get involved and gain some hours. RockFest is a Rock Quarry Tradition. It is a day long science event, organized by grade level and totally staffed by parents and community members. Teachers and students just rotate through the stations. There are currently two work days, October 5 & 12 from 8:30-2:00. You do NOT have to stay the whole time. Just make sure to sign in and out on the green PreK parent log sheet as well as the PTA log sheet. There are tasks of many levels, so feel free to come in and meet some other RQES parents. RockFest will be October 19.

We will also be celebrating our 50th day of school very soon! The children in PreK-2nd grade will dress in their 50’s day attire. Halloween is a great time to pick up some items for dress up, but please don’t think you have to purchase anything. A white tshirt, rolled jeans and white socks, ponytails, pearls, saddle oxfords and scarves are probably all found in your playroom. We will have a sock hop and hula hoop at PE, and we will have “coke” floats (a tiny bit of caffeine free soda and vanilla ice cream) as a treat. We will do lots of things with the number 50 on our 50th day, which is October 20 (I think! I will double check!)

This week we are continuing with our All Things Fall theme and we will begin creating our ABC posters. This week in literacy we will focus on the letter S when adding words to our poster. See how many words beginning with S that your PreKPal can think of! In Math, we are going to learn to spin and graph with apples! New centers this week will be more Write the Room, Label the Scarecrow, new fall books (I went shopping this weekend!), a super fun science experiment and much more! So many fun things to do!

Thanks to everyone who sent money in for the Curing Childhood Cancer donation. Our PreKPals collected $65! The grand total collected by RQES in a one week period (with some help from a sorority on campus) was $10,000!! We pray that this money is used to find a cure and that no child ever has to spend the days in their PJ’s due to sickness and bad health. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this cause. Ava Kate thanks you, too! (Her picture is in my badge holder on the back of my ID badge. The students know who she is because they’ve seen her picture and I’ve told them that I put it there so I would see her and remember to pray for her health. Ava Kate has been at school some this year in 2nd grade, she’s shy, but I am going to see if she will come in and say Hi to the PrekPals so they will know just who they have helped!) Thanks again!

Coming soon- Mystery Reader sign ups!

I promised that I would link the www.gonoodle.com site for your munchkin to use at home! Here you go!

Have a happy week! It’s Fall Y’all! Alicia
