Happy Mother’s Day 2024!

Mrs. Dunn and I want to thank you all so much for making us feel so appreciated last week! We have loved every thoughtful note, every gift card, every snack and candy treat, the awesome new cups, the cute notebooks and pens are all so thoughtful!! We appreciate each of you so much! Our favorite thing was reading the cards and letters! Your children are our gifts everyday!! Thank you so much! We feel so loved!

We hope you loved your little heart canvas painted just for you by your PreKPal and that you have felt loved and celebrated today!

This week is a busy week so there will be a blog post tomorrow detailing all of the dates and times and special things that will be needed for this week. Monday is a regular day – so no worries. You have time to prepare!

Today, I’d like to leave you with one of my favorite poems about being a Mom.

I did not write it, but I have lived every word. For those of us to whom becoming a Mommy did not come as easily or as expected, Mother’s Day is an especially precious day. And for those still waiting to be a Mommy for the first time, or for the second time, Mother’s Day can be very painful.  Thank you so much for sharing your children with us. We love all of them dearly. We hate that our time together is coming to an end so soon.

Enjoy.

Before I was a Mom
Before I was a Mom
I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.
Before I was a Mom
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on – Pooped on – Spit on – Chewed on, or Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and My thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests…or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life
so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Happy Mother’s Day, friends. Alicia and Whitney

Tick Tock…………Tick Tock……….

Hello PreKPals and Families-

This month is going to go so fast and I am NOT ready! Mrs. Dunn and I are so glad that this sweet little class is coming back for summer learning! We are not ready to let them go to Kindergarten just yet!

This week in Heggerty Phonics, we will learn Peas Porridge Hot. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review all letters this week. Keep reviewing letters and letter sounds with your child at home. In Math, we will work on adding to 10. We will keep working on subitizing numbers. Our theme for this week is All About the Ocean!

We are loving our songs for the PreK celebration on May 16th. I will include the links at the bottom so you can practice at home! As a reminder – May 16 is the day of the kindergarten breakfast in the morning and the PreK Celebration in the afternoon. You will want to take off work for the whole day. You will send your child to school at the normal time. At 9 am you will meet us in the front foyer of the school and your child will attend the kindergarten breakfast with you. At the end of the tour, you will bring your child to room 226 and drop them off with me and Mrs. Dunn. You will leave and do whatever grownups do when they are off work! 😊 At 1 pm you will come back to the multipurpose room and find a seat. We will have our PreK Celebration and at the end of that time you may take your child home with you or they can remain at school for extended day if they usually do that. You will have your child’s portfolio to take home with you that day. It’s always a great day at RQES and the best part is that you only have to take one day off work and your child only has to wear their “cute clothes” and stay clean for one day! It’s a win-win!

We cannot wait for you to see your child’s portfolio! We have at least one-two items from each unit we have done this year, as well as their self-portraits from each month, and lots of classroom photos! It will be a treasure for you!

This Friday is wear Green Day for mental health awareness.

Friday will also be our last library day for this school year so find all of your library books and return them to school.

Weekly Reminders:

  • A water cup with a valve, already filled with water (flavored water must be clear!), labeled with your child’s name. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school. NO OPEN POUR CUPS. NO JUICE!!!
  • Your child’s backpack and lunch box (if they will not eat from the cafeteria).
  • A bag with 5 snacks (that do not need to be refrigerated!) labeled with your child’s name. Please do not pack snacks in the lunchboxes.
  • Nap Mat
