Turkey Bowl Week

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy LAST week of November. I am not sure how we go this far into the semester. But here we are! When we come back to school after the break it will be December! We will only have 14.5 days of school before the winter break! Can you believe that? We will start our Santa for a Day program when we come back on December 2. Look for detailed instructions for that coming home soon in the binder.

This week in Heggerty phonics we will review the past four weeks of Nursery Rhymes. We are encouraging you to do the same with your child at home. This is a perfect thing to do in the car. Start the rhyme and see if they can join in and help you finish it.

Wednesday of this week we will have a different lunch schedule due to First Grade’s Thanksgiving feast. We are asking that no one attend lunc on Wednesday unless you have a first grader. Thanks!

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Gg and Ll. In math we will learn how to make 5 and all of the parts that make 5.

We LOVED the Balloon Parade! I hope your PrekPal had the best time! They worked so hard designing their balloons and we loved helping them bring their plans to life. We watched this video for inspiration!

Remember that the daily Reading Log is good for part of the 14 required parent involvement hours that you need to accrue by the end of the year. Some friends are reading a lot at home and some are not reading at all. It is never too late to start! A new reading log sheet will come home in December.

This week is the Turkey Bowl! Always a great time with our sister school Verner Elementary. We hope to see you and your family there! Tickets may be purchased on GoFan.

Don’t forget to turn in your Turkey Feather!

This week you will get 2 copies of the progress report for the first semester Please sign and return one copy and keep one copy for your records. Let me know if you would like to have a conference.

Jacket Reminder- UNLESS your child can put on and take off an over the head sweatshirt, we are asking you to PLEASE send them with a jacket that buttons or zips all the way up the front. With so many 4-5 year olds, it is hard for us to teach and take the sweatshirts off and put the sweatshirts on as many times a day as they want this done……times 13 PreKPals. We are teaching them the PreK Jacket Flip so they can be more independent. You can try this at home as well. This only works with an open front coat, jacket or sweater. They are SO PROUD when they can do it themselves!

PreK Jacket flip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73qom9IueV8  This is why we ask for jackets that zip or button. This technique is so easy and so empowering for our little ones!

Please remember to make sure anyone who is dropping off or picking up your PreKPal knows that they MUST park in the front lot and walk across the crosswalk. We have a lot of foot traffic coming across the hill by the flag pole, and walking/parking in the bus lane. The safety patrol officer will start issuing tickets and we want to make sure everyone is doing the right thing for the safety of our PreKPals.

Please remember that we are asking the PreKPals to NOT play superheroes at recess or PE.

Class Needs: envelopes of any shape or size. (Our students LOVE writing and drawing at the writing center and using envelopes. If you pay your bills online and are just tossing the return envelopes, we would love to have them!)

Reminders from Mrs. Jockisch-

Turkey Bowl tickets are only going to be sold on GoFan. The link will be in the PTA link tree and I will post it to dojo when it is live. Turkey Bowl is Nov. 21 at 6 pm at NHS under the lights. RQES v. Verner! One of the greatest traditions in the ’06. You won’t want to miss this.

Time for Thanksgiving!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Thank you for a lovely birthday surprise on Friday! I am so honored that you remembered me on my birthday. The PreKPals asked how old I was and I told them that I was 5, because everyone turns 5 in PreK. Somehow, I am not sure they believed me!

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Nn and Xx. We will focus on the sound X makes at the end of words like box and fox. In math we will continue to work on shapes and patterns.

We are moving into our Thanksgiving unit for the next 2 weeks. We are going to learn about the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and we are going to make our own Balloons to parade around the school! The parade will be videotaped and shared with everyone since it will happen in the middle of the school day! We will make lots of pictures for you! Our turkeys are up in the hallway and are awaiting their feathers! Please send your child’s feather to school tomorrow!

On Thursday afternoon there will be a parent meeting at 1:15. We are required to host this meeting, but we understand that there are many obligations that might keep you from attending. Have no fear! We will send the book home for you to keep and we will provide a PowerPoint link. All you have to do is let me know that you have watched the PowerPoint and your parent involvement hours will be awarded.

Remember that the daily Reading Log is good for part of the 14 required parent involvement hours that you need to accrue by the end of the year.

U*S*A

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy Sunday! WOW! We had an awesome, busy, fun time last week! Red Ribbon Week, Rockfest, Stellaluna Science with the 5th graders, Halloween, Pumpkin Float and Sink with the other PreKPals, Pajama Day…….We are tired!!

This week, we are going to learn about our amazing country and we (the WHOLE school) will be working on cards and letters for the veterans. We will have a PTA program on Thursday night, November 7 at 6 pm and all Veterans and military personnel are invited. Each one will be presented with a thank you and our 4th graders are singing patriotic songs. On Veteran’s Day, we are out of school and I will take around 500 cards and letters from RQES to the Tuscaloosa VA. This is one of our yearly service projects and one that is close to my heart. In class, we will also learn to vote, and learn what it means when the majority rules. (We will be voting on a special snack…..we are going to leave the politics discussion to you at home!)

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Hey Diddle Diddle. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Cc and Tt. In math we will continue to work on shapes and patterns.
