November

Nov. 1 PJ DAY for PREK ONLY!!

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Little Boy Blue  We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We are also sending home 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive from last week because I just found it and realized I never sent it home last week! So Sorry!

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Dd and Kk. In math we will work on shapes. We are finishing up our All Things Fall study with a week of Halloween activities. Next week we will learn all about the USA, the election and we will make cards for the Veterans. Rock Quarry always delivers cards and letters to the VA on Veteran’s Day so we will be busy making those to hand out. We love this unit and learning about our country!

Remember that the Reading Log is good for part of the 14 required parent involvement hours that you need to accrue by the end of the year.

Jacket Reminder- UNLESS your child can put on and take off an over the head sweatshirt, we are asking you to PLEASE send them with a jacket that buttons or zips all the way up the front. With so many 4-5 year olds, it is hard for us to teach and take the sweatshirts off and put the sweatshirts on as many times a day as they want this done……times 13 PreKPals. We are teaching them the PreK Jacket Flip so they can be more independent. You can try this at home as well. This only works with an open front coat, jacket or sweater. They are SO PROUD when they can do it themselves!

PreK Jacket flip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73qom9IueV8  This is why we ask for jackets that zip or button. This technique is so easy and so empowering for our little ones!

Please remember to make sure anyone who is dropping off or picking up your PreKPal knows that they MUST park in the front lot and walk across the crosswalk. We have a lot of foot traffic coming across the hill by the flag pole, and walking/parking in the bus lane. The safety patrol officer will start issuing tickets and we want to make sure everyone is doing the right thing for the safety of our PreKPals.

Please remember that we are asking the PreKPals to NOT play superheroes at recess or PE.

On Friday, November 1 (the day after Halloween) we are making it easy for you to get your little ones to school. It will be PJ Day for PREK ONLY! Tennis shoes are required. Put them in jammies after trick or treating and then on November 1, wake them up and bring them to school. Please leave all candy at home and do NOT let them eat it for breakfast!

Class Needs: full sized bottled waters, small lunch sized waters, envelopes of any shape or size. (Our students LOVE writing and drawing at the writing center and using envelopes. If you pay your bills online and are just tossing the return envelopes, we would love to have them!)

Book Fair Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

We had a good but short busy week in PreK last week! We had music, 50th Day, Trike Day and a whole lot of learning in between! So sorry for not having a blog post for you last week. My husband almost collapsed on Friday, and was hospitalized with a GI bleed and blood transfusions all weekend. They were able to stop the bleeding and he got to come home Monday night. It was a pretty scary weekend but he’s back at work and doing well now. I appreciate your grace when I didn’t have all the things ready for you last week.

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. Continue to look for rhyming words and also focus on beginning sounds of words and identifying words that start with the same letter. You can have your child circle all of the T’s (or any other letter) on the copy we send home.

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for P and J. In math we will work on positional words. This is something you can work on at home. Many PreKPals do not know what we mean when we say “Line up behind Logan”, or “Stand beside Anna.” Positional words and phrases  like between, next to, under, on top of will help your PreKPal navigate the classroom and beyond!

Remember that the Reading Log is good for part of the 14 required parent involvement hours that you need to accrue by the end of the year.

With chilly weather arriving, we are asking that a jacket or sweater be sent every day. Our PE is at 8:15 and it is pretty chilly in the shade. UNLESS your child can put on and take off an over the head sweatshirt, we are asking you to PLEASE send them with a jacket that buttons or zips all the way up the front. With so many 4-5 year olds, it is hard for us to teach and take the sweatshirts off and put the sweatshirts on as many times a day as they want this done……times 13 PreKPals. We could use a case of full sized bottled water if you would like to donate some.

Farm and Fall

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make our fieldtrip to The Barnyard so special! Everyone had so much fun and it was a beautiful day! For the next few weeks we will be learning about the farm and hoping we will see some signs of fall! We have lots of fall books and we have turned our pretend area into a farmer’s market with apples and vegetables! We will also have a fun dress up story retelling area for a PreK favorite- Mrs. Wishy Washy!!

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Baa Baa Black Sheep. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. Continue to look for rhyming words and also focus on beginning sounds of words!

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for T and A. In math we will still be practicing to make groups of 4 and all of the different parts that can make up 4.

Please remember to make sure anyone who is dropping off or picking up your PreKPal knows that they MUST park in the front lot and walk across the crosswalk. We have a lot of foot traffic coming across the hill by the flag pole, and walking/parking in the bus lane.
