SPACE!!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Sorry the blog is late. I did not have internet at home yesterday and the blog is not on a format that I can utilize with my phone. But here we are on a drippy, rainy Monday….ready to tackle another week.

This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Little Jack Horner. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will review the letter and sound for S. In math we will continue repeating patterns. This week we will begin learning about Space! I hope you took a look at our sneak peek of pictures. There was LOTS of excitement today when the PreKPals came in! They cannot wait to get started!

We kept nap mats on Friday since they were only here 3 days last week. So sorry that I forgot to tell you last Friday.

This week is Guidance Class on Wednesday with Mrs. Chandler!

Class Needs:

  • Black Cardstock
  • Sidewalk chalk

A Busy Short Week!

Hello PreKPals and Families-
I hope you are enjoying this long weekend with your family! We are not sure what the TCS will do in regard to the arctic weather we will be experiencing the next few days, but we will let you know as soon as we know! We may see some snow flurries again so refreeze your black paper so you can catch and view the snowflakes when they fall! TCS has provided additional heaters for us to use in our classroom so we will be toasty warm inside, despite the weather outside.
White Tshirts are due Tuesday! Don’t forget that you need to bring a plain white undershirt type Tshirt for our 101 Day in January. Please label the inside of the neckline with your child’s name.
This week in Heggerty phonics we will learn Pat A Cake. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. The PreKPals are doing great with remembering their Nursery Rhymes! As you recite those rhymes together, talk about the words that rhyme. Give your child a word and see if they can provide an additional word that rhymes. We also talk about words that begin with the same sounds. We will review the letter and sound for W. In math we will continue repeating patterns. This is our last week for learning about the winter and the ways people and animals adapt for cold weather! We are so happy the weather cooperated with us for this unit!
This week is library week on Wednesday! Return your book if it is at home so you can get a new one! We have several library books in our basket at school already.
Our bears had such a fun time at school hibernating! We arrived on Friday to find them all over the room doing all kinds of PreK work! Thank you for helping us make PreK magical!
This week will be our 100th Day of school and our 101st day of school! 100 is such a huge number for little ones and we love to celebrate this milestone. The current plan is that we will celebrate the 100th day on Wednesday and the 101st day on Thursday. On Thursday we will wear black and white, have a special black and white snack, make some black and white art and wear our dalmatian shirts that we are making in class. We will let you know if the plan changes due to the potential of being out for the weather.
Class Needs:
• Clorox or Lysol Wipes
• Sidewalk chalk

Let It Snow!

Hello PreKPals and Families-
We hope everyone had a blast in the snow over the long weekend!

Don’t forget that you need to bring a plain white undershirt type Tshirt for our 101 Day in January. Please label the inside of the neckline with your child’s name.

EVERY CHILD will need a jacket EVERYDAY! We have PE for 30 minutes at 8:15 and they spend at least part of the time outdoors daily unless it is pouring rain or sleeting. If it is not actively raining they will go out. We then go out again for our required second recess at 12:00. Our school is on top of Lake Tuscaloosa, and it is windy and cold.
YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE A COAT. If you don’t want to be bothered daily with this you can send a jacket that they can have in their cubby for those “just in case days”.

Coats, jackets, sweaters are a MUST HAVE item. Please label with your child’s name.

This week in Heggerty phonics we review the past 4 nursery rhymes. We will continue work on the letters and sounds for Vv and Yy. In math we will learn how to continue repeating patterns. We are going to be learning about the winter and the ways people and animals adapt for cold weather!
We will be focusing on letter sounds for the second semester. We will review all of the letters we have learned this year and reinforce the sounds of those letters. Learning to match upper case to lowercase letters and learning to identify the sounds that are associated with those letters will make the transition to kindergarten so much smoother. If you haven’t started practicing at home it is not too late! Let us know if you need resources to help you with this.

In the PreK Binder you will find the January Calendar and the Cupid for a Day schedule for February. We will have our Valentine snack during our regular snack time on February 14. We will not need parental assistance for this since it is just a snack but the room mom’s will be reaching out soon for ways you can assist with snack items.
This week, on Thursday, your child will need to bring a stuffed bear or a stuffed animal that can stay at school Thursday night. (PLEASE do not send your child’s special lovey that they MUST have to sleep at night!) The bears will hibernate at school on Thursday night and return home for the rest of the winter on Friday.

Class Needs:
• Small Lunch box sized waters
• Sidewalk chalk

Happy 2025!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy New Year!! We cannot wait to see everyone and get started with the second semester of PreK on Wednesday! We have some fun activities planned and we will get to have Guidance Class with Mrs. Chandler on Wednesday morning!

I hope everyone has washed their backpacks and lunchboxes and that you have everything ready to go. If you brought your backpack to school on Party day in December then we kept your PreK Binder. If you did not (I think there were 4 of you) then your binder will need to come back to school on Wednesday! Make sure you have your napmat! Don’t forget that you need to bring a plain white undershirt type Tshirt for our 101 Day in January. Please label the inside of the neckline with your child’s name.

Thank you so much for all the amazing ways you loved on me and Mrs. Alker at Christmas. We appreciate every note, card, goodie, gift card and gift. Your babies are our gifts every day! Thank you for spoiling us at Christmas!

Parents- Please stay weather aware this week. Who knows what might happen? I do know that 13 little PreKPals and 4 teachers will be super excited if we get to see snow! We keep black construction paper in a ziplock bag in our freezer at all times so if there are flurries we can quickly put on coats and grab the frozen black paper and run outside to catch the snowflakes. The frozen paper helps us see the points and designs on the snowflakes. We will send a snowflake catching kit home for you to use in case the snow happens when we are not at school. Be sure to store it in the freezer until it is needed and don’t take it out until you are ready to walk out the door.

Speaking of snow and cold and wind………

This week in Heggerty phonics we review Roses Are Red. We have sent a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will work on the letters and sounds for Vv and Yy. In math we will learn how to continue repeating patterns. We are going to be learning about the new year 2025 and winter! We will not send napmats home on Friday.
