Last Week of 2024

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Putting this at the top so that it does not get lost.

EVERY CHILD will need a jacket EVERYDAY! We have PE for 30 minutes at 8:15 and they spend at least part of the time outdoors daily unless it is pouring rain or sleeting. If it is not actively raining they will go out. We then go out again for our required second recess at 12:00. Our school is on top of Lake Tuscaloosa, and it is windy and cold.

YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE A COAT. If you don’t want to be bothered daily with this you can send a jacket that they can have in their cubby for those “just in case days”.

Coats, jackets, sweaters are a MUST HAVE item. Please label with your child’s name.

The room moms are asking that all party supplies that you signed up for be sent in by THURSDAY so they can assemble the boxes and get things ready for the party. Thank you!

This week will be quick! We will have regular school on Monday-Wednesday. Thursday is pajama day (please wear regular shoes for PE/Recess) and Friday is our sing along day and party day with a half day dismissal. PreK will dismiss at 11:10. Here’s the info from the half sheet that was sent home on Friday.

The CRAZY HOLIdaze in Pre-K!
(Hopefully this note will help the remainder of 2024 school year be less confusing!)

Thursday 19th – Wear PJ’s! (tennis shoes must be worn for recess/PE) We will read The Polar Express and have hot chocolate!

Friday 20th HALF DAY   School wide sing-a-long at 8:30 in the gym.  We will be singing Reindeer Pokey.  Wear your cute Christmas clothes or Christmas colors (red, green.) You are all invited to come and watch us perform.  Hopefully we won’t ALL get stage fright.
However, even if we do we will be cute!
Friday 20th – (after sing-a-long) Classroom Party!  Parents are invited to attend.  Dismissal is at 11:10 for Pre-K but if you come to the party you may check your child out by signing them out in the classroom after the party.  Regular dismissal that day will be at 11:10 for Pre-K if they are not checked out. (Extended day will be in session, but you have to register for a special event on Friday since they will be picking up at 11:10.)

This week in Heggerty phonics we learn Roses Are Red. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. We will work on the letters and sounds for Zz and Qq. In math we will learn how to subtract from 5.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

Hello PreKPals and Families-

We have loved our Gingerbread Unit! Those sneaky cookies just escaped from the snack box on Friday and led us all around the school! It was a good way to get us up and moving and thinking! Those clues were tricky! Friday was too cold for Trike Day so this was a fun alternative. We also made gingerbread playdoh for science last week and we have read a ton of Gingerbread books! We haven’t read them all though, so we will still enjoy a few this week. We will be learning about Christmas traditions for the next two weeks……and then we will be closing out 2024 and your babies will be HALF WAY to kindergarten! Woah!! The days are long, but the years are short, friends……

This week in Heggerty phonics we learn Wee Willie Winkie. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Hh and Uu. In math we will learn how to identify and compare different sets of numbers. We have been in school for 80 days! (We only count days that we are actually in school and we do it using a 10 frame. Our friends are getting really good at looking at the 10 frame and know how many more we need to be able to make 10! We start a new 10 frame tomorrow! They have also learned how to count by 10’s! They are super smart!

EVERY CHILD will need a jacket EVERYDAY! We have PE for 30 minutes at 8:15 and they spend at least part of the time outdoors daily unless it is pouring rain or sleeting. We then go out again for our required second recess at 12:00. Coats, jackets, sweaters are a MUST HAVE item. Please label with your child’s name.

We sent home all changes of clothing on Friday if your child didn’t have a set that included long pants. Please send long pants, a long sleeve shirt, socks and undies in a bag labeled with their name tomorrow.

You may have heard your PreKPal talk about the “other teachers” in our room. We have Ms. Catherine Price and Mrs. Randi Shepherd as classroom aides in our room on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They have been with us for a while but they will be permanent fixtures on our teaching team for the rest of the year. We are happy to have them join us permanently!

Date Santa for a Day
Tuesday, December 10 JoJo, Mrs. Jenne’, Mrs. Alker

Jacket Reminder- UNLESS your child can put on and take off an over the head sweatshirt, we are asking you to PLEASE send them with a jacket that buttons or zips all the way up the front. With so many 4-5 year olds, it is hard for us to teach and take the sweatshirts off and put the sweatshirts on as many times a day as they want this done……times 13 PreKPals. We are teaching them the PreK Jacket Flip so they can be more independent. You can try this at home as well. This only works with an open front coat, jacket or sweater. They are SO PROUD when they can do it themselves!

On December 20th – we will have our School Wide Sing Along and our class parties. The Sing Along is first in the big gym. After that, we will have our party in our classroom (226) and dismissal is at 11:10. You may check your child out in the classroom if you want them to go home with you. Extended Day will be picking up at 11:10 but you have to register for this on the PARA website. For the Sing Along, they are asking that only 2 guests per child attend and that siblings do not attend. ☹ So Sorry about that! We will be singing The Reindeer Pokey. Your child can wear any holiday attire, or regular school clothes. We are making reindeer headbands to wear!

Gingerbread Week

Hello PreKPals and Families-

Happy December!! We are so excited to see everyone tomorrow and to begin our holiday festivities. We will start this week with learning about Gingerbread and then the next two weeks we will learn about holiday traditions. If you have any special traditions that you would like to share with us, please let us know.

This week in Heggerty phonics we learn It’s Raining It’s Pouring. We are sending a copy home for you to enjoy with your child.

This week we will work on the letters and sounds for Rr and Ww. In math we will learn how to add numbers to make 5.

You got 2 copies of the progress report for the first semester. We are still missing signed copies from 2 friends. Please sign and return one copy and keep one copy for your records. Let me know if you would like to have a conference.

Santa for a Day starts tomorrow! We already have the stockings hanging and they are awaiting the gifts! Here’s a snippet from the directions if you need help.

Please follow a few guidelines:  1) Choose small toys.  The stockings must hold 13 deliveries.  2) Choose something that all children will enjoy OR an item for boys and another for girls.  We have 7 girls and 6 boys.  3) There is no need to write student names on gifts nor do gifts need to be wrapped.  This will cause Santa much trouble with finding/matching names with stockings.  Then, it becomes a CHORE instead of a fun-filled activity.  However, you may write FROM whom the gifts come.

Date Santa for a Day
Monday, December 2 Luke, Anna
Tuesday, December 3 Hanson, Edie
Wednesday, December 4 Mattie, Milly
Thursday, December 5 Robert, Sloane
Friday, December 6 Sislee, Logan
Monday, December 9 Ivan, Eleana
Tuesday, December 10 JoJo, Mrs. Jenne’, Mrs. Alker
