Book Fair Week!

Hey PreKPals and Families-

It is Book Fair week! Our day to shop at the Book Fair is Tuesday. You can use the eWallet option or you can send money for your child in a labeled envelope. Please label it with their name and amount. Put the envelope in their binder and Mrs. Dunn and I will take care of the rest. Books and change will come home in their backpack on Tuesday afternoon. Change will be returned in the zipper pocket in their binder. $5 is usually enough to get one book with a bit of change left over.

In literacy this week, we will work on identifying and making the letter sounds for Dd and Kk . In our Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program for PreK, we are reviewing the 4 previous Nursery Rhymes. They are getting so good and remembering them! We will also work on identifying words that sound the same at the beginning and those that do not sound the same. (Pig and pot. Do they make the same sound at the beginning? Pig and mat? Do they make the same sound at the beginning?)

In math, we will still be working positional words and we will add shapes! Can your PreKPal identify and name the 4 basic shapes: circle, square, triangle and rectangle?

Our theme for this week is the farm! We are excited to explore learning about farm animals and crops!

We had so much fun on the Tuscaloosa Tumblebus on Friday! The PreKPals rested well after all of the gymnastics they got to do. Our class was divided in half, so Mrs. Dunn took half of the class to Tumblebus and I had half of the class in the room and then we switched. That gave everyone plenty of time to tumble.

We hope all of you have a great and safe Halloween! Please make sure that ALL CANDY STAYS AT HOME this week. Also, make sure your child is NOT eating candy for breakfast before coming to PreK! You’d be surprised at how often this happens and it just causes meltdowns and difficult days at school.

Please remember that if your child is absent, I need a note, email or dojo message or a doctor’s note to excuse the absence. You are allowed 5 parent notes for absences and every absence after that will require a doctor’s note to be excused.

We play outdoors daily. If you want to send a jacket that can stay at school you are welcome to do that. Now that the weather is cooler we are asking that you send a jacket daily if you don’t want to send one to stay in their cubby. Make sure to label all jackets with your child’s name. This will help us find them if they get misplaced.

Speaking of jackets!! It’s time to learn the PreK Jacket Flip! We will be teaching the children how to do this. You can practice at home! It will make your life easier (and ours too!) Here’s the link to show you how it works.

A great resource for letters and sounds is the Letter Factory by Leap Pad. You can find them all on YouTube or in DVD’s. All of the Leap Pad videos are great and the songs stick in your head! Here’s a link for you to use at home.
