Welcome PreKPals and Families-
We had an awesome week with Dinosaurs last week! So much so, that we are going to continue for another week. The PreKPals have had the BEST time wearing dino tails and hats (found at Dollar Tree!) and digging in the kinetic sand and using the dino bones sand molds (also from Dollar Tree)! It has been a great time!!
This next part is for parents only- so if you read this out loud to your PreKPal- just skip this part. A great mommy/teacher hack is to buy Halloween costumes early on November 1 (or late on October 31) when they go on sale. I’ve done this for both of my children and made dress up trunks that Santa brought to them at Christmas. Even if you don’t celebrate Halloween or Christmas, the dress up trunk makes an awesome birthday gift and it is a gift they will play with over and over!
Weekly Reminders-
- Send Lunch money (in a labeled envelope: Child’s name/lunch money) or a lunch box (no items that need to be heated), labeled with your child’s name. Please put bento lunch kits inside a lunchbox for easier transport to the cafeteria.
- A water cup with a valve, already filled. Make sure your child can drink from it at home before coming to school, labeled with your child’s name. NO OPEN POUR CUPS.
- Your child’s nap mat, labeled with your child’s name.
- Your child’s backpack, and PREK BINDER.
- A bag with 5 snacks labeled with your child’s name. We are trying to send leftovers home on Friday because we have an ant problem and we don’t want to come in on Monday to an infestation!
- Please label everything with your child’s name! 😊
I sent the lunch menu for this week on dojo. Picture day is this week on Wednesday, September 28th.
For our Heggerty Phonics this week, we are doing Humpty Dumpty. We have sent a copy home for you to enjoy with your child. In math, we will still be counting to 10 and matching numbers to quantities 0-10. In literacy, we are working on recognizing the letters in our names and our friends’ names and all the uppercase letters and lowercase letters. We will focus on M and O this week! See how many Mm and Oo your child can find in their Nursery Rhymes we have sent home. Let them circle those letters with a crayon! Hunt for M’s and O’s when you are out around town! I bet you can find a lot!
Don’t forget to send a doctor’s note or a message on Dojo if your child is absent. You have 3 days to get those turned in after the absence. If you go to the doctor, make sure to get a note! You are only allowed 5 parent notes before a doctor’s note is required.
Look for an email or groupme from our room moms! We are so lucky that Jack’s mom (Kelsey Robinson) and Shiloh’s mom (Monica Kirkpatrick) are leading the room parent group this year. After so many years of covid protocol- we are so happy to have parents included in school again! Thanks ladies for taking this on!
Dismissal is promptly at 2:20 at the PreK doors. You will need to arrive early because the carpool traffic backs up. Do NOT get in the carpool line.
We have several friends from our 3 PreK classes that go to Extended Day with PARA. If you need Extended Day services, you can go to the Phelps Center to fill out the form and pay the fees. Extended Day picks up at 2:20 at RQES and ends at 5:45 at the Phelps Center. Extended Day is also available for early morning drop off. I am unsure of how this works because it is a new service offered to our families.

NEW CORRECTED DATES!! 20-21: PreK is CLOSED (teachers will attend a conference in Mobile) All other grades K-5 will be in school. Only PreK students will stay home.
November:
6: Veteran’s Day Program at school at 6 or 6:30 pm. All are welcome!
11: No School -Veteran’s Day
22-25: Fall Break- Thanksgiving Holiday
